AI is positive or negative for the world?

Artificial Intelligence

AI is a field of computer science that seeks to create systems and programs capable of performing tasks that normally require human intelligence. These tasks include speech recognition, decision making, problem solving, learning, creating images, main maps or information and understanding natural language, among others.

In essence, AI is based on algorithms and mathematical models that allow machines to process large amounts of data, identify patterns, learn from experience and make decisions without direct human intervention. Furthermore, AI is transforming numerous fields, such as education, healthcare, transportation, industry and many others, in this blog will discuss the positive and negative aspects of AI in education.

Positive aspects of the AI in the classroom:

To begin with, the first point is the personalization of learning; AI through different digital tools can adapt the content and pace of learning that has been established in a general way to the individual needs and capabilities of each student, allowing a more efficient and personalized learning. In addition, it mentions the importance of the access to educational resources, since it facilitates access to online educational platforms and tools, providing materials such as books, interactive videos and simulations that are available to students at any time. In this way the teacher can provide immediate feedback, AI systems can provide real-time feedback to students and teachers on the answers obtained, allowing them to correct errors and improve continuously and effectively.

Finally, AI is a fundamental tool in this era as it supports teaching by freeing teachers from repetitive tasks such as automatic correction of exams or exercises, content creation for the planning of meaningful learning that students are expected to achieve, allowing them to focus more on teaching and interacting with students. This helps foster an inclusive learning environment, offering tools such as text readers, virtual assistants, game creation, group and individual test taking and automatic captioning, which facilitate the participation of students with disabilities or learning difficulties. Through AI, the teacher can encourage the student to learn not because it is an obligation but because it is fun.

Negative aspects of the AI in the classroom:

To continue with the negative aspects it is important to note that everything good also has a negative side in this case will be named several aspects in which the AI significantly impairs learning, as a first point, the dehumanization of learning, is a problem that directly damages the interaction between people and this in turn is fundamental for learning. Excessive use of AI can reduce the quality of personalized teaching and empathy in the teacher-student relationship. Another aspect is the lack of development in students' social skills, as AI-based learning can limit people's opportunities to work in teams, interact socially, and develop interpersonal skills.

In this order, ideas, it should be noted that in underdeveloped countries such as Latin America where poverty is experienced, inequality of access in technological devices and in turn AI is reflected, it is true that AI offers great benefits, but not everyone has access to the necessary technology, or to the internet when the population is located in rural areas, which can increase inequality gaps in society. There are also aspects such as excessive dependence on technology as it affects students’ ability to solve problems without digital aid or develop critical thinking skills and ultimately, the use of AI involves collecting personal data and student performance, and the use of AI this raises concerns about privacy protection and misuse of information collected.
